    The Position

    GLI is seeking a Website Content Manager to oversee the planning, site building, and maintenance of new and existing content on GLI’s websites. This role is integral to the organization’s mission to promote the knowledge and understanding of American history. The successful candidate will have some knowledge of website technology, experience in project management and graphic design, and experience or education in content strategy.

    The Website Content Manager will join the Institute at a dynamic time. As GLI celebrates 30 years, the Website Content Manager will work to enhance and expand GLI’s nonpartisan K–12 history resources at this critical time for our nation.

    This role will be based in New York City and currently requires working in person at least one day per week in GLI’s midtown office. This individual will report to the Director of Educational Programs and collaborate closely with the Senior Drupal Developer and Educational Programs, Editorial, and Technology team members.

    Responsibilities

    Content Creation and Site Building (50%)

    • Serve as project manager for website content projects
    • Create and build projects that will live on our Drupal 10 websites, including new study guides, webpages for new initiatives and programs, and interactive resources using third-party tools such as ArcGIS StoryMaps or TimelineJS timelines

    Content Management (30%)

    • Manage day-to-day changes to Gilder Lehrman website content
    • Partner with colleagues to keep the website content current, including posting announcements, news, events, and resources
    • Manage online content calendar, ensuring the timely creation and delivery of updates throughout the year

    Website Analytics Tools and User Experience Optimization (15%)

    • Use digital user experience tools, including Google Analytics and Mouseflow, to optimize content, enhance search rankings, and increase user engagement
    • Perform regular content audits to review and analyze how GLI can serve K–12 audiences more effectively

    Other duties as needed (5%)

    Requirements

    • Bachelor’s degree
    • Experience creating and laying out original, engaging website content featuring many types of media
    • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work seamlessly across teams and at various organizational levels
    • Project management skills, with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment that involves juggling multiple projects at once and being detail-oriented about each task
    • Proficiency in HTML and CSS, familiarity with JavaScript
    • Graphic design skills
    • Basic understanding of:
      • User Interface (UI) and User Experience (UX)
      • Internet technologies and concepts
      • Programming and programmatic thinking
      • Databases, SQL, and spreadsheets
    • Commitment to GLI’s mission and enthusiasm about making history education engaging and accessible to students

    Desirable Skills

    • Experience with:
      • Drupal or other Content Management Systems (CMS)
      • Platforms for interactive content (e.g., StoryMaps, TimelineJS, etc.) and video hosting (e.g., Vimeo, YouTube, etc.)
      • Website analytics software
    • Historical training in American history is a strong plus, especially in digital history
    • Understanding of brand and content strategy

    Compensation

    Compensation range: $60,000–$70,000 annually.
