    Founded in 2003, Women's Audio Mission is an award-winning nonprofit dedicated to closing the gender gap in music production, the recording arts, and technology.     Position Summary

    Reporting to the Director of Development, the Communications Associate will support a multi-channel communications strategy to amplify WAM’s presence in the industry, including our partners, students, and events. They will work closely with other teams across the organization, producing compelling marketing materials to support the programs and initiatives for each department, as well as collaborating with other team members on projects as needed. As an early-career position, we are committed to responding to your own growth needs. Please note this is a hybrid position based out of WAM’s San Francisco office and not remote.

    Primary Objectives and Responsibilities

    Manage and boost our digital presence

    Create engaging content on WAM’s social media platforms that effectively communicates WAM’s voice and optimizes engagement, including hashtags, geolocation, and other strategies.

    Digital content creation, capturing photos/videos, generating graphics for social media, website, educational materials and newsletters.

    Build social media content strategy, including managing a social media calendar and making recommendations on how to strengthen our work on various platforms

    Execute our communications strategy and foster cross-organizational norms and processes

    Develop content across website, newsletter, online appeals and other needs

    Create or maintain streamlined internal organizational systems to ensure optimal external updates and promotion

    Support public relations and media activities

    Support efforts to ensure consistent organizational voice

    Develop communications materials

    Conduct research to identify opportunities to generate audience growth

    Monitor the key performance metrics of our communications work, including audience segmentation

    Ensure that events, news, and programmatic updates are optimally shared

    Draft or edit public-facing materials including press releases, blog posts, pitches, statements, factsheets, social media posts, and other marketing communications documents

    Event Support

    Provide coordination and production support for events on and offsite as needed

    Qualifications

    2-3 years of experience in communications, event production, or social media

    Experience producing content and materials, particularly digital communications and graphic design

    Proficient with G-Suite and experience with social media tools like Hootsuite, project management tools (e.g. Slack), communications tools (e.g. Wordpress, MailChimp, Eventbrite), and design tools (e.g. Adobe Creative Cloud tools, Canva)

    Experience with press and media outreach

    Excellent written and verbal communications skills, with a demonstrated ability to compose and edit effective and thoughtful content across multiple platforms and for various audiences.

    Proficiency across social media and web platforms, managing content, engagement, and analytics.

    Creativity, good judgment, and resourcefulness when it comes to problem-solving and taking initiative.

    Collaborative outlook and interpersonal skills to support team members

    Physical Requirements

    Ability to stand, work and travel from one location to another.

    Remaining in a stationary position, often sitting or standing for prolonged periods.

    Prolonged periods working on a computer.

    Communicating with others to exchange information.

    Repeating motions that may include the wrists, hands and/or fingers.

    Must be able to lift 15 pounds at a time.
