The Situation in Nepal

There is a real shortage of skilled physiotherapy/therapists in Nepal. If you’re currently training in physiotherapy or occupational therapy (with at least one year of experience), recently qualified or mid-career, your help in Nepal can provide valuable treatment to babies, children, and adults with a wide range of physical problems. The experience of completing a physiotherapy internship in Nepal will in return give you a greater understanding of how professionals in the field operate in developing countries, and an opportunity to utilize your skills for the benefit of others.

Where can I do my Physiotherapy Internship in Nepal?

1. Education and Rehabilitation Center for Children

Just outside of Kathmandu there is a center where children with different types of disabilities get help with their education and rehabilitation. Here there are several other physical physiotherapists that can work with you and guide you. There is a schedule that allows each child to spend quality time in the physical therapy/physiotherapy room as often as possible. Each child has different needs: some are learning to walk, some suffer from muscular problems, while other children need to have their joints massaged regularly to maintain their physical health. Extra assistance from interns with these tasks will allow more children to use the room and get treatment on a regular basis.

1. Hospital

We offer a range of internship opportunities within hospitals, allowing you to observe and work with physiotherapy therapists in diverse settings such as rehabilitation centers, orthopedic units, and more.

1. Home for Disabled Adults and Children

In this amazing and loving home, there are 70 patients and only one physical therapists. Help is needed and you will work alongside the physiotherapy/physical therapist, learning and helping at the same time.

Do I need any specific skills or qualifications for this placement?

Everyone doing a Physiotherapy Therapy project in Nepal must have completed at least one year of related studies or training by the time they join the project. It is important for volunteers to have a positive attitude and a real willingness to help children with a wide range of physical and mental disabilities if they are to work here.
