The Maryland Department of Human Resources (DHR) is the State’s human services agency. With nearly 7,000 employees in the central office and 24 local departments of social services, DHR programs serve children, families and vulnerable adults. Employees provide foster care, adoption and protective services to children; foster care and protective services to adults; collect and distribute child support payments; and administer temporary cash, food stamps, energy assistance and medical assistance to families. Last year, DHR served 638,000 people in need.
