    The US Fish and Wildlife Service's Patuxent Research Refuge, is the nation's first and only National Wildlife Refuge established to support wildlife research. Ground breaking research in endangered species propagation and the effects of DDT on wildlife has been conducted here over the years. The mission of the refuge today is to support wildlife research, provide a diversity of habitat for a diversity of wildlife, and to provide educational and interpretive activities regarding wildlife conservation for the public.
