New York City Department of Education Division of Early Childhood Education

  • About Us

Every student in New York City deserves an opportunity to have the foundation of skills, knowledge, and approaches to learning needed to be ready for school and, ultimately, college and careers.

A robust body of research has demonstrated that this begins very early in life with quality pre-kindergarten contributing to increased lifelong success.

With school and community-based pre-k programs throughout the city, the Office of Early Childhood Education provides families access to high quality early childhood options that prepare their children for success in school and life. Together with families and programs, we ensure children are engaged, nurtured, and supported with the tools needed to develop into independent learners and creative problem-solvers.
