About Us
Berkeley is an iconic city in Northern California’s Bay Area, located on the Eastern shore of San Francisco. Home to the oldest campus in the University of California school system, UC Berkeley, the city spans approximately 18 square miles. As part of Alameda County, Berkeley borders Emeryville and Oakland to the south, Albany to the North, and Orinda to the East.
The city is well known for its rich diversity, progressive ideas, and thriving cultural scene. Berkeley is governed by our Mayor and City Council, representing eight districts with roughly 125,000 residents. Our elected officials work in conjunction with dedicated civil servants across various departments.
