    Who we are

    We are a consulting team that works with public sector leaders, philanthropy, and nonprofits in New York City, nationally, and globally to help them tackle their most pressing problems and maximize impact for the people they serve. We partner with mission-driven organizations to develop and implement new strategies; design, assess, and strengthen programs and operational practices; and successfully navigate organizational change.

    We are a values-driven organization. We work to build a strong civic sector, guided by a belief in its capacity to develop just and equitable solutions. We strive to advance equity and inclusion inside and outside our firm by fostering transparency and accountability within our team and working with our clients to identify and address inequity in their work. We strive for an enjoyable and supportive workplace—we approach our work with humility, creativity, and a collaborative spirit.

    What you will do

    As an Associate you will play a central role in client engagements and contribute to business development and firm operations. In close partnership with your engagement teams, you will work directly with clients, to analyze problems, conduct research, and collaborate in the design and development of solutions. Core responsibilities for this role include:

    • Conducting desk research and gathering perspectives from stakeholders through interviews and focus groups, and using those inputs to inform our recommendations for clients;
    • Organizing and supporting facilitation of meetings with clients, including senior leaders;
    • Producing clear and succinct written materials, including memos, visual presentations, and reports;
    • Analyzing and synthesizing qualitative and quantitative data, raising critical questions, and communicating findings in presentations and reports;
    • Providing project management support to internal teams, including keeping track of tasks and project timelines;
    • Contributing to proposal and pitch writing for business development; and
    • Contributing to internal strategy and operations of the firm through discrete assignments.

    Who you are

    You are an energetic, civic-minded person with the following skills and interests:

    • A demonstrated interest or direct work experience in public policy or administration, or relevant nonprofits and community-based organizations;
    • An interest in understanding how the public and civic sectors operate, and in building relationships with leaders in the civic sector to understand their work and perspectives;
    • An ability to perform policy analysis and research to understand complex problems;
    • An understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methods and the ability to work with data to unpack problems in their context;
    • Highly-effective written and communication skills and an ability to translate insights into clear and concise written work products or oral presentations;
    • An ability to develop visual presentations that thoughtfully and succinctly communicate findings; and
    • Strong skills in project and task management across simultaneous engagements.

    We work well with people who are

    • Agile: we value the ability and willingness to learn from experience and apply that learning as conditions change
    • Analytical: we rigorously interrogate problems and incorporate a diverse set of facts and perspectives into our work
    • Creative: we develop creative solutions to complex problems and push our clients to think beyond the status quo
    • Collaborative: we are committed to a collegial workplace and team approach to our work
    • Curious: we promote a culture of continuous learning from our team, clients, and partners
    • Driven: we work with the imperative to make the world better

    Required qualifications

    • An undergraduate degree or four years of relevant work experience;
    • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint; and
    • Authorization to work in the United States.

     We recognize that people with marginalized identities are less likely to apply to jobs even when they meet the basic qualifications. We encourage you to apply if you think you are a good fit, even if you don’t have all the skills or experiences listed above.
