Accelerator Overview
Our vision is a safe and just future for people and planet.
The COP15 Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework is a great start but it needs to follow through. Corporations and financial institutions must credibly and actively contribute to a nature-positive, net zero, and equitable world, but they need support and pressures.
The missing piece is accountability.
The Accountability Accelerator seeks to deploy our resources and capabilities to support the efforts of accountability stakeholders to strengthen the accountability ecosystem. The Accelerator is a re-granter and an intermediary with people at the center of everything we do. We identify and map accountability actors and ecosystem components, provide grant support and coordination across them, convene stakeholders, and provide thought leadership.
Our grantees work globally as well as locally; they use a variety of tools for accountability — from finance to legal, data, standards and campaigns. We know companies need both incentives and pressures to act at the speed and scale that is critically needed. Our network of grantees provides support for companies (targets, frameworks, capacity building, and incentives) and also puts pressure, pushes for transformation, and drives for regulation.
The Accelerator is a component of the Global Commons Alliance, a growing coalition of scientists, philanthropists, civil society groups and innovators, enabling collective action to safeguard the global commons.
Mission
Our mission is to drive corporate and financial institution action to reverse nature loss through an impactful accountability ecosystem. We accomplish this by supporting a tight web of stakeholders working globally and locally to enable, incentivize, and pressure corporations and financial institutions to actively contribute to a nature-positive and equitable world by 2030.
