    Fair Election Center’s Campus Vote Project (CVP) was launched in 2012 to expand our work on student voting issues. We work with universities, community colleges, faculty, students, and election officials to reduce barriers to student voting. CVP helps campuses institutionalize reforms that empower students with the information they need to register and vote.

    Position Description

    Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project seeks a Michigan State Coordinator to join our organization's work to institutionalize civic learning and democratic engagement programs for campus communities and empower students to participate in our democracy. The Michigan State Coordinator is a key member of our team. They are charged with developing and managing relationships with campus administrators and faculty to carry out our goals. They also supervise “Democracy Fellows,” stipend student positions committed to planning and running democratic engagement programs on their campuses. Democracy Fellows coordinate with administration and faculty, helping organize student voter registration, voter education, and voter turnout activities. The Michigan State Coordinator will report directly to a CVP Regional Manager.

    Goals of the Program:

    • Engage campuses at an institutional level to help create nonpartisan democratic engagement programs that promote voter registration, voter education, voter turnout, and foster student leadership across the entire campus community.
    • Provide campus administrators, faculty, and student leadership with accurate nonpartisan information on the voting process and elections through training, materials, and one-on-one support.
    • Ensure campus administrators, faculty, and student leadership conduct comprehensive voter engagement programs and begin institutionalizing and cultivating a long-term culture of democratic engagement on their campuses.
    • Implement CVP’s program with approximately 30 campus partners and 40 Democracy Fellows across Michigan.
    • Supervise other Michigan staff positions as necessary, such as a Deputy Coordinator during the 2024 election cycle.
    • Coordinate with CVP’s coalition partners also conducting nonpartisan civic engagement programs on campuses, including making CVP materials and resources available to partners, and foster greater administrator/institutional-level engagement of these partners’ programs.
    • Coordinate on state specific programming as needed including but not limited to the Collegiate Student Advisory Task Force with the MI Secretary of State’s Office.
    • Complete progress reports highlighting sharable best practices and lessons learned for other institutions and conduct an evaluation of all efforts throughout and at the end of each year.
    • Organize an annual summit with statewide organizational partners to facilitate building a statewide network of democratically engaged campuses across the state.

    Requirements:

    • At least 1-2 years of organizing work either on campuses or with political/issue campaigns.
    • Superior communication skills both written and oral.
    • Willingness to travel and access to reliable transportation as travel is required in order to attend events, partner convenings and campus visits across the state.
    • Experience engaging diverse constituencies and experience with institutions of higher education is a benefit.
    • Must reside in Michigan.

    This is a full-time permanent remote position, with a salary range of $58,000 - $67,000, depending on experience. Fair Elections Center offers generous employer paid health, vision, and dental insurance, 3 weeks vacation, and a 403(B) retirement plan with employer contribution.
