  • About Us

Halima Selengiya Orphanage is a non-governmental organization (NGO) dedicated to extending assistance to orphans and underprivileged children. It was named after Halima Selengiya, a remarkable woman who played a pivotal role as a freedom fighter and founding member of the Tanganyika African National Union (TANU) in the Moshi municipal branch. This significant institution was established back in 1954.

During a visit to the Kilimanjaro region, the esteemed Mwalimu Julius Nyerere, the founding father of modern Tanzania, residede at Halima Selengiya's residence.

She generously provided a home to homeless and orphaned children, contributing significantly to the foundation of our orphanage center. Even after her passing, for four years, the local community continued her legacy by nurturing and caring for these vulnerable children. It is in honor of her memory that Orphanage Halima was born, under the leadership of Swalehe Zabura Mkilindi, who still serves as the director of this orphanage center.

Orphanage Halima Selengiya officially commenced its operations in 2017, led by Swalehe Mkilindi. It was situated on Liwali Street in the Moshi district of Kilimanjaro region, Tanzania. The organization's primary mission is to provide charitable assistance to orphans, offer shelter to homeless children, and impart spiritual guidance to these young souls.
