    Description

    The Position

For the past two decades Win Without War has been at the forefront of a national movement focused on building a more peaceful world. On the digital side, our work has focused on growing our base of hundreds of thousands of digital activists, and refining the ways we engage them to join us in this critical moment. Now with a return to the divisive, dangerous politics of the first Trump administration, the stage is set to dig deep and go further.

We’re seeking a Digital Director to join us for this exciting next phase by leading on tactics and campaigns that will exponentially increase our impact, fundraising, and activist base.

Are you passionate about creating a just future that allows us all to thrive? Do you want to help pass progressive legislation, hold corrupt actors accountable, and dismantle the war machine piece-by-piece? Do you know how to use online tools to build the kind of grassroots power that gets us all that and more? If so, keep reading!

    Here’s what you’d do:

    • Lead and grow a dedicated, passionate digital engagement team, develop programmatic goals, and oversee all program efforts.
    • Identify and execute on opportunities for high-impact digital campaigns that will excite and resonate with a broad audience in order to grow our activist base, generate revenue, and make impact — often on tight deadlines.
    • Act as a line manager for junior staff, providing mentorship, support, and reinforcing a model that allows others to grow and thrive within the organization.
    • Drive organizational digital strategy, including creative thinking about campaigning and storytelling as well as assessing tech tools and tactics that engage and help build power.
    • Collaborate internally and with movement partners, decision-makers, and influential individuals to advance organizational objectives.
    • Lead and support the email and SMS process from start to finish: developing CTAs, identifying targets/audiences, drafting compelling content, editing, building, testing, and analyzing performance, jumping in to help execute when needed.
    • Oversee the analytics program for email, SMS, web, and other digital tools, ensuring performance metrics are tracked effectively to identify opportunities and emerging risks – including email deliverability.
    • Maintain and build relationships with digital vendors, including staff at CRM and fundraising platforms, freelance graphic designers, website developers, and digital campaign consultants to ensure effective and impactful campaigns.
    • Represent the organization at relevant meetings and events, on conference calls with partners, and on movement listservs.
    • Other duties as needed.

You could be great for this job if you:

    • Have 5+ years of experience* in email advocacy, digital fundraising, or online organizing, including experience with CRMs, blast email, SMS, and other digital activism tools.
    • Are excited about the challenge of running and growing a digital campaigning program and leading a dynamic team to achieve ambitious goals.
    • Are a strong delegator and thrive in situations where you can support staff to their best work.
    • Care deeply about equity and are able to bring an intersectional analysis both to how we work and what we work on, to have hard conversations when necessary, and to center the experiences of marginalized communities.
    • Have nuts-and-bolts organizing and/or rapid-response campaigning in an electoral or advocacy setting.
    • Write in a clear and compelling way, whether that’s engaging emails to motivate our activists to take action or sharing concise, informative updates with staff members.
    • Possess a strategic sense that allows you to identify political opportunities for grassroots impact to deliver progressive victories, while articulating clear theories of change that invite and engage more people to join us.
    • Maintain a strong and consistent attention to detail while project managing multiple simultaneous workstreams and priorities.
    • Comfortable working with Google Docs, using basic HTML and Excel formulas.

Everyone at Win Without War has:

    • A passionate commitment to building a more peaceful world, and to our vision of a U.S. foreign policy rooted in values of peace, justice, and accountability.
    • A willingness to be nimble and work without ego as part of a proactive team of leaders.
    • A commitment to equity and working to dismantle systems of oppression.
    • The ability to rapidly develop a working understanding of the politics of national security as it involves Congress, the executive branch, civil society and social movements, and the media.
    • The ability to work independently when necessary, manage projects, and execute multiple simultaneous tasks on tight deadlines.
    • A healthy sense of humor.
    • Fluency in written and oral American English.

Experience in one or more of the following areas isn’t required, but is a plus:

    • Managing and growing a large email list (250,000+ subscribers).
    • Leading issue campaigns on a national and/or global scale.
    • Building effective partnerships or coalitions with advocacy and/or activist groups.
    • Graphic design or videography, particularly anything demonstrating an aptitude for creating creative and compelling social media content.
    • SQL or other database experience.
    • Familiarity with ActionKit, Action Network, and ActBlue.
    • Understanding of the operations, structures, and incentives in governmental decision making on issues of war and peace — foreign and domestic.
