    About Democracy International

    Democracy International believes in the power of direct democracy and citizen participation to better our lives and the societies in which we live. Together we can bring about change. Our aim is to strengthen direct democracy and citizen participation at all political levels in the nation states, in the EU and on the global level. Supporting democracy activists from all over the world, organizing knowledge-sharing events and campaigning at the EU and UN for more citizen participation - these are Democracy International's core activities.

    About the Role

    The responsibilities of the International Programme include, but are not limited to, the responsibility of managing the International Democracy Community of democracy activists around the globe. Contacting and mapping activists who work on issues related to participation and direct democracy around the world. Distributing regular newsletters, gathering and editing journalistic contributions from activists around the world, and organizing webinars on democracy activism and monitoring of national advocacy efforts and corresponding developments at the UN within the global alliance.

    Key Requirements

    • Pursuing or completed bachelor’s degree in a related field.
    • Excellent written and spoken English.
    • Knowledge or experience conducting research and reports on human rights.
    • Experience or knowledge in supporting the global community of democracy activists?
    • Currently residing in South Africa
    • For the duration of the internship, you must be willing to relocate to Germany.

    Allowances:

    Each volunteer will receive 500€ to cover food and personal expenses. All other costs –

    accommodation, flights, insurance etc. – will be covered directly via Democracy International.

    Accommodation: Your accommodation will be in a shared household with the volunteer to the

    European Programme at Democracy International, who will arrive and leave around the same time.

    Each volunteer will have a private bedroom; the kitchen and bathroom are shared.
