New York, NY

  • About Us

Movement for Justice in El Barrio is an immigrant-led, grassroots organization fighting for justice in East Harlem, New York. Movement was founded to fight against a voracious trend towards gentrification that is devouring affordable housing and displacing low-income families from their homes.

Members practice collective decision-making and democracy at regularly-held leadership meetings and deepen their political analysis through discussions of the root causes of injustice.

Movement requires the community to set the direction of the organization through participatory democracy and was named the "Best Power to the People Movement in NYC" by the Village Voice.
