Orb. One World. One Story.
Orb produces a new kind of journalism that challenges and unites us around our human story.
About Orb
Orb unlocks the full journalistic potential of what technology has made possible. We provide a new perspective, a refreshing type of journalism that resonates with and is accessible to a diverse, global audience. Our reinvented editorial process enables us to serve our human community with journalism that challenges and unifies us by fostering our understanding of our interconnected and interdependent world.
How?
We begin by focusing on eight topics that we all have in common: Food, water, energy, health, education, environment, trade and governance.
Rather than deliver event-driven content, bombarding the public with breaking news while providing little in the way of context, Orb practices pro-active journalism. We ask how events may (or may not) fit into a meaningful, global trend. We use today’s digital tools to consider our world as a set of interlocking human and natural systems, rather than a confounding deluge of random events.
We treat both massive data analysis and the knowledge in the crowd as primary sources. This information helps our journalists see the world more holistically and pursue, at a global scale, what matters most. Our teams of professional journalists test the insights that emerge from data analysis and the crowd by conducting on-the-ground reporting. Applying their critical thinking, they distill the complex and often contradictory information into a story we can readily understand.
Orb delivers each story in four versions – text, audio, multimedia and data – in the world’s ten most widely spoken languages. Our stories are designed to be accessible on any phone, tablet or computer.
The Executive Director and founder, Molly Bingham (www.meetmollybingham.com), conceived of the organization and is currently developing a the Orb team.
