  • About Us

The Parks Department is one of the most innovative and forward-thinking City agencies. As the steward of nearly 15% of the City's acreage—including nearly 1,700 parks, 14 miles of beaches, playgrounds, recreation centers, nature centers and, zoos— we are in an unprecedented period of growth and development as part of Mayor Bloomberg's PlaNYC initiative. Parks has been charged with planting one million new trees, ensuring that every New Yorker lives within a 10-minute walk of a park or a playground, and redeveloping major destination parks in every borough—all by the year 2030.
