A Day in the Life
What are three things you love and three things you find challenging or frustrating about your work?
Love:
1.  national scope
2.  commitment of grantees
3.  commitment to social justice of the work

Challenging or Frustrating:
1.  inability to be equally versed in work out of New York
2.  keeping the board up to speed on developments in the field
3.  perceptions of the job not gibing with reality

What is the most important task on your desk right now?
Developing a convening of cbo's engaged in education organizing and representatives of teachers' unions -- developed out of a collaboration with representatives from both of these groups and other funders

What drives you to do this work? What makes you want to get out of bed every morning?
The imperative of pushing for a public education system that truly believes that all children can learn -- and acts on that belief. It is a SOCIAL JUSTICE issue and a HUMAN RIGHTS issue.

How often do you "dress up" for work? Describe the culture of your organization.
There's a fairly relaxed culture in the office day to day. I dress up for meetings, board events, etc. Otherwise a professional but comfortable style is appropriate here.

In a typical month, about what percentage of your time is spent on the following activities?
Talking on the phone 20%
Dealing with email 15%
Meetings with individuals 10%
Meetings with groups/committees 10%
Traveling
(includes other activities listed, e.g. mtg's)
30%

(Note: respondents could allow their answers to add up to be more than 100%)

What do you do when you are feeling burned out at work?
