What is the difference between an individual and organizational account?

Answer:

Signing up for an individual account is free and allows you to:

  • view and search all the listings on Idealist.org
  • receive email alerts that contain information about opportunities posted to our site that match your preferences
  • connect with other Idealist members (via our online messaging system or by posting a message to a forum)
  • publish a personal profile to Idealist.org.

All Group accounts are created and managed via an individual account. (Please note that “Group” is an umbrella term for Organizations (which include those in the nonprofit and government sectors) and Affinity Groups, the two types of organizational accounts currently found on our site.) Once you have created an Individual account, you can register your Group with Idealist by submitting a profile for inclusion in the appropriate directory. Similarly, if your Group is already listed on Idealist, you can associate your individual account to the existing profile.

The Group account is for the Group as a whole, and it can be accessed by multiple individuals who are all associated via their individual accounts. Once you access your Group’s account, you’ll be able to update the profile information and post listings.
