About the Nonprofit FAQ

Summary:

A brief history and explanation of this service.

Answer:

The Nonprofit FAQ is a compilation of frequently asked questions, and their answers, based on on-line communications about nonprofits (mostly in the United States of America) beginning in the early 1990s.

Note: Material in the Nonprofit FAQ may be copied for noncommercial use unless copyright is explicitly reserved to the original author or publisher of an item. Inward links, using Permalink shown at the bottom of each page, are always welcome; permission to construct such links is not required.

Commercial use (including reproduction for distribution at a conference or seminar for which a fee is charged) requires permission from the Editor and, often, payment of a reprint fee. For further information, email info@idealist.org or write the Editor at Action Without Borders

The Nonprofit FAQ is a project of Action Without Borders, the publishers of http://www.Idealist.org, http://www.Idealistas.org (in Spanish) and http://www.Idealiste.org (in French). Its editor is Putnam Barber.

The Nonprofit FAQ was created by Ina Frank, Jayne Cravens, Putnam Barber and others. In the late 1990s, it was merged with The Internet Nonprofit Center, founded by Cliff Landesmann, and operated by The Evergreen State Society, then a nonprofit support organization based in Seattle, Washington. The Evergreen State Society combined with Executive Alliance (http://www.exec-alliance.org) in September of 2005 and its local Seattle programs are continuing. At that time, Action Without Borders became the publisher of the Nonprofit FAQ.

Michael Gilbert, President of The Gilbert Center (http://www.gilbert.org), programmed the original content management system for the Nonprofit FAQ and assisted with the maintenance of the site; The Gilbert Center (and its predecessor, Social Ecology, provided hosting services for the FAQ as a public service for many years).

The file http://www.idealist.org/if/i/en/faq/494-172 contains answers to several frequently asked questions about this site.
