State of the group?
Date: April 4, 1:02am
Hello,

I just found and joined Idealist.org, and this is the first group I noticed in the area. It appears to have a short history (<than one year), but I am curious about the status:

Why has it moved to Google Groups, yet there are still people joining here? If Google is better, fine, but it seems like a huge disadvantage to distribute correspondence accross two networks.

I typed in my zip code in the south bay and found zero groups. Searching in Los Angeles found a few, including this one, with almost 100 members. Are there five or ten of you the south bay that want to meet and discuss building upon local comunity and resources?

I read that LA Idealists do hold meetings. It looks like the activities might have since moved to that Google group. I will check that out, but in the meantime, let me know if there are other live ones still here.

Regards,

Deric

Deric,

We are alive and active. I imagine there is some confusion regarding the google group and the idealist group. That has arisen because in February 2007 when idealist started their local meetings several groups popped up in the LA area, which is great. This one originated in central LA (charles drew university - spearheaded by karen chien.) While we have been persistently maintaining a local LA idealist collective, we were utilizing the google group because several months passed before idealist.org was able to finalize their "group" capabilities. We are using the idealist page primarily to feed interest over to the google page that has our calendar, posts, documents and events updated regularly. It is a user-run organization and while we do not have many active south bay members, we hope new members initiate events to attract spirited individuals to become more active in their communities. Please join us at our San Pedro tree planting event or join the google group and contribute as you see fit.

all the best
Brian

Thanks Brian,

I penciled in to my calender and will try to join you to plant some trees.

And, I will still make a point to check out the more active and current collaboration in the google group.
