Cards for Kids Project
Date: November 21, 12:32pm
I recently began this project called "Cards for Kids" in which handmade and painted cards are sent to kids across the globe who are affiliated with different organizations and may be facing poverty, homelessness, or a difficult situation. A card is meant to brighten their day and bring a smile to their face. Some suggestions of groups that can become involved are such groups as girl/boy scouts, youth groups, high school committees, etc. If you would like to make cards or contribute please visit my website at http://cardsforkids.weebly.com. The more cards, the more smiles that will be brought to the kids.

Conducting a Student Design Project, Responses Needed
Date: November 21, 9:12pm
Hello all,
I am conducting a student project investigating the relationship between one's surroundings and mood. I have created a survey that investigates this relationship and I am reaching out to various groups and individuals so that I can have a diverse body of results. If you have a moment and can fill this out, then I would greatly appreciate it. Also, if you find this survey interesting, then please feel to pass it along! Here is a link to the survey: http://www.sh-survey.co.cc/ Thank you for your time!

Opportunities for Change: System for "treating youth"
Date: November 22, 3:09am
I am interested in working to change the way we, in the United States, treat youth who are considered "behaviorally challenged" or who are on parole/probation. Granted, while they are in detention their rights are limited, but the big difference is that the way they are treated is more closely monitored while in jail because they are in a government facility. My concern is over their treatment after being released. Speaking from personal experience, having worked in residential treatment facilities, our current methods aren't yielding positive results enough of the time. Simply throwing our kids away because we are tired of dealing with them only hides the problem. Granted, some individuals will disagree with this statement, but regardless - I know there must be a better way.
I would appreciate any insight you may have as to how I can go about creating change. I would love to startup my own organization, but would be open to working for a group that has already been established. I am eager to stand up for the rights of these children and to seek out more effective ways of providing treatment for them. |
