What is the difference between an individual and organizational account?
Answer:
While it is not necessary to have an account in order to use Idealist, there are certain features of our site that are only available to registered members. For example, if you sign up for an Individual account you can receive email alerts that contain information about opportunities posted to our site that match your preferences, connect with other Idealist members (via our online messaging system or by posting a message to a forum), or publish a personal, volunteer, or speaker profile to Idealist.org. It is free to register as an individual!
All Group accounts are created and managed via an individual account. (Please note that “Group” is an umbrella term for Nonprofit Organizations, Consultants, and Idealist Groups, the three types of organizational accounts currently found on our site.) Once you have created an Individual account, you can register your Group with Idealist by submitting a profile for inclusion in the appropriate directory. Similarly, if your Group is already listed on Idealist, you can associate your individual account to the existing profile.
The Group account is for the Group as a whole, and it can be accessed by multiple individuals who are all associated via their individual accounts. Once you access your Group’s account, you’ll be able to update the profile information and post listings.
