Where is the 'Nonprofit Locater'?

Summary:

This service is no longer offered. But there are other online sources of information about charities.

Answer:

The Editor of the Nonprofit FAQ posted this notice in November 2000::

We regret that it is not possible for us to restore the functions of this popular resource. You may wish to try alternative nonprofit directories, such as http://www.guidestar.org and http://www.idealist.org.

(Added 7/9/05): The IRS itself offers an online tool for searching for information about recognized 501(c)(3)s. See http://www.irs.gov/charities/article/0,,id=96136,00.html
