Idealist Webinar Series

Webinar #19 • Mar 9, 2010 • Service Programs

Helping students select the right service opportunities

On the surface, service corps all share similar characteristics—a fixed term of service tackling tough issues in communities throughout the world, in exchange for a living stipend and health benefits. However, even within the AmeriCorps family of programs exists a surprising diversity in program types—from individual-placement program development in a nonprofit, to direct service roles in an elementary school, to team-based assignments involving hard physical labor. Throw in the variety of international service opportunities and non-AmeriCorps programs, upper age limits, lower age limits—the variations are endless. Unwitting prospective corps members can easily sign on to a program that doesn't offer them the experience they were aiming for, simply because they didn't ask the right questions.

This webinar aims to help you and your graduating seniors feel confident that their career goals align with the type of service they're enlisting in.
