  • About Us

    Our Mission

the Service Board (tSB) mentors teens to conquer personal and community challenges through outdoor adventure, environmental and social justice education, and public service.

As a youth-led organization, our vision is to build community around strengthening youth capacity, amplifying youth voice and increasing access to opportunities for leadership and development. Ultimately, tSB seeks to create a safe space for King County youth to see themselves as capable of fostering a more equitable future.

    What We Do

tSB strives for every young adult that comes through our programming to be emboldened by the authentic connections they develop with others, to engage their communities as advocates for social justice, to become good environmental stewards and to take action to create they change they want to see in their communities and beyond.

Our intensive Core Program (CP), in session from January to June, features 40 advocacy and education workshops, snowboarding trips and community service projects. Each year, CP typically serves 30-45 Prophets (first year youth participants), 10-12 Peer Leaders (second year youth participants), 12-15 adult mentors, and 15-20 adult snowboard instructors.

Our Summer Leadership Impact Program (SLIP) occurs in July and August for four weeks. SLIP participants will include 10-15 previous Prophets still in high school and 1-3 current CP Peer Leaders to support in transitioning Prophets to the Peer Leader role. SLIP’s 10-12 sessions will feature a deeper dive into issues impacting the outdoors, like climate change, the state of our oceans, or sustainable agriculture, combined with surfing trips and national park visits.
